Culex quinquefasciatus and Aedes aegypti breeding sites. Culex quinquefasciatus is a major domestic pest, it can act as a vector of viral diseases for humans but not very efficiently; it transmits fowl pox and dirofilariasis. Aedes aegypti also breed in artificial containers (flower pots, rain gutters, bird baths) and eggs can resist desiccation for up to one year and it transmits Yellow Fever in West Africa, Central and South America, and dengue in the tropics.
